How I’m Using AI Prompt Packs as a Side Hustle (Better Than Expected)

Why I Started Selling AI Prompt Packs

A couple of months ago, I needed some extra income on top of my day job.

I honestly assumed selling digital products would be way harder than it looks online. No audience, no brand, no funnel — just an idea and some free time. But surprisingly, it’s been going much better than I expected.

What I’m Actually Selling

I put together a pack of AI prompts — basically step-by-step instructions that help ChatGPT do genuinely useful things for:

  • Students
  • Creators
  • Small business owners

These aren’t generic prompts. They’re practical workflows people can actually use.

At first, I tested the idea by giving away a free mini-pack just to see if anyone cared.

They did.

Turning a Freebie Into a Paid Product

After the free version got some traction, I created a more in-depth guide and listed it for $9 on Payhip.

The first sale came from Reddit, of all places. That single sale did more for my motivation than the money itself — it proved someone was willing to pay for this.

Since then, I’ve been getting a few sales each week. Nothing crazy, but consistent.

And the best part?
No shipping. No inventory. People buy, download instantly, and that’s it.

What’s Actually Been Working

A few things made a noticeable difference:

  • Giving away a free mini-pack to build an email list
  • Posting genuinely helpful content in communities instead of hard selling
  • Reworking prompts based on real problems people struggle with, not generic AI use cases

That combination has worked far better than just “launching” and hoping.

The Results So Far (No Paid Ads)

Last month, I made around $300 — with zero paid ads.

That honestly blew my mind.

It’s not life-changing money, but it’s real, repeatable, and digital. I’m now putting that back into tools and experimenting with new prompt packs and niches.

Why This Feels Different From Other Side Hustles

I’m not trying to replace my main job (yet).

But it feels good knowing I’ve built something:

  • Fully digital
  • Low overhead
  • Scalable
  • Earning even when I’m not actively working

That alone makes this worth continuing.

Curious What’s Worked for Others

I’m still early, still experimenting, but this has been one of the more encouraging side hustles I’ve tried.
