I’m posting this because I left a comment in another thread that unexpectedly blew up. A bunch of people DM’d me asking how I actually make eBay dropshipping work without it turning into a full-time headache.
So instead of answering the same questions over and over, I figured I’d lay everything out properly and treat this like an open AMA.
Quick Background (What Didn’t Work First)
Like a lot of people, during COVID I decided to try building an online business.
I started with Shopify.
Random products.
Sketchy suppliers.
Shipping delays.
Learning ads.
Customer support nightmares.
All at the same time.
It didn’t go well.
I lost some money and a lot of time — but more importantly, I learned exactly what not to do.
Why I Moved to eBay
Eventually, I switched to eBay for one simple reason:
The traffic was already there.
No gambling on ads.
No waiting weeks to see if something converts.
No building trust from scratch.
That said, the early days were still rough.
The Early Problems With eBay Dropshipping
At first, everything felt chaotic:
- Product research took forever
- Prices kept changing
- Suppliers went out of stock randomly
- I was constantly worried about account issues
It felt like one mistake away from getting shut down.
The business worked, but it wasn’t sustainable.
Where Automation Changed Everything
That’s when I started using — and eventually building — AI software to handle the boring, error-prone parts:
- Product research
- Competition analysis
- Repricing
- Supplier stock tracking
- Order flow
Once those pieces were automated, everything clicked.
Instead of reacting to problems all day, I was just monitoring a system.
What My Day Looks Like Now
At this point, the business mostly runs itself.
I:
- Check things once or twice a day
- Handle edge cases
- Make small adjustments if needed
That’s it.
No constant firefighting.
No 12-hour days.
No pretending this is passive when it’s not.
This Isn’t “Get Rich Quick”
There’s no overnight success story here.
This took:
- Trial and error
- Losing money early
- Fixing systems instead of chasing hacks
But the result is something that’s actually sustainable and doesn’t take over my entire life.
Final Thoughts
If you’re trying to make eBay dropshipping work long-term, the biggest shift is this:
Stop trying to do everything manually.
Build systems.
Automate what you can.
Protect your account first, profits second.
Happy to answer questions about:
- How I started
- What I messed up early
- How AI fits into the workflow
- Account safety
- What I’d do starting from zero today
Ask away.
